Before a product is designed, research if often done to get an idea about other products that exist and what audiences want.
Why do research? – intro slide
There are two types of research:
- primary research
- secondary research
For each method, you need to know what it involves, the advantages and disadavntages of it, and why it would be used.

Types of information
Research methods produce information. That information falls in to one of two types:
- qualitative information – words, opinions and views
- quantitative information – numbers
It's important to know the difference between these.
